Building Your Business: My Journey and effective Strategies/Steps

Read time: 5 minutes

Today, I am going to share my journey of building and growing my business and the steps you can take right now, if you are looking to start your business, build a side hustle or any creative project.

I am aware that I can’t share each and every element of building my successful coaching business from scratch but I will certainly share the high level information and strategies you need to start your business or grow your existing business.

Let’s begin.

1. Mindset

Honestly, this is the biggest roadblock and the biggest asset.

Before I jump into any tactical methods of creating a successful business that you can build and grow, we need to address the importance of right mindset.

Mindset is NOT just about positive thinking, but also about developing a proactive and resilient approach to challenges, nurturing a growth-oriented mindset, and cultivating confidence in yourself and your business.

I personally had to develop habits and perspective to cultivate a strong mindset because the truth is building your business takes time.

One also goes through multiple failures in the beginning so if you don’t have a long term perspective for the business then you might not really be the good fit for entrepreneurship.

And, that’s okay too.

I don’t want to sugar coat the whole thing by ignoring the difficulties and challenges that can overwhelm and stress you out, but just like anything new, there is a LEARNING CURVE to it.

If you are all in the game, then you need to build the right mindset and keep on sharpening it as you go along the journey.

So here are 3 Mindset Rules that I propagate for building a successful business.

  • Positive mindset Rule - It fuels resilience: Building a business involves facing numerous challenges and setbacks. With a positive mindset, you can approach these obstacles as opportunities for growth and learning, enabling you to bounce back stronger.

  • Growth mindset Rule - It fosters innovation: Embracing a growth mindset allows you to continuously seek new ideas, adapt to changes, and explore innovative solutions. By viewing failures as learning experiences, you can embrace experimentation and push the boundaries of your business.

  • Confidence Mindset Rules - It attracts success: Believing in yourself and your abilities is essential for attracting investors, partners, and customers. A confident mindset exudes credibility and inspires trust, making it easier to build valuable connections and secure opportunities for your business.

2. Niche

Niche is like finding your little corner in a crowded market where you can shine by catering to a specific group of customers with unique needs.

Let me give you an example:

Think about eco-friendly baby products. There are parents out there who are really conscious about the environment and want products that align with their values. So, if you start a business that offers eco-friendly baby products, you're targeting a niche market.

Another example could be virtual fitness classes.

Busy professionals who can't make it to the gym might prefer working out from home. So, if you offer virtual fitness classes tailored to their needs, you're tapping into a niche.

It's all about finding that special spot where you can serve a specific group of people and meet their specific needs in a way that stands out from the competition.

This also involves aligning your PASSIONS and expertise with market demand.

My niche is helping people master their value proposition to get positioned, promoted and paid for their services.

But, honestly, I didn’t have much clarity on the niche and I still took the first step. I do believe you can find your voice and absolute clarity along the way too. As long as, you have some clarity and value in your service, you’ll start getting clients or customers.

Overall, clarity of niche enables you to position your brand, marketing efforts and value specific to that segment. So, focus on it, but, also DON'T get stuck at it. Take aligned actions and let it take its form eventually.

3. Business Domain & Website

Now you have a business idea and some clarity on who you want to sell your product or service to, the NEXT step is to register a domain and build your website.

Once you have acquired a domain, you can connect it to your website and use it for professional email addresses, online marketing, and branding purposes.

Your domain becomes a central part of your business's online presence and helps customers find and interact with your products or services on the internet.

I used Namecheap for domain registration and Kajabi to build my website and courses.

I found them simplest to understand and work with. In the beginning, you don’t want to OVERTHINK or over spend. You need to be able to speed up things  with least amount of resources involved.

I literally made my first website landing page in 5-6 hours and started getting email subscribers.

With Kajabi, I had huge mental relief because it was one stop shop for everything from your website hosting to email marketing to building online courses and I didn’t have to go through the struggle of learning Wordpress or asking for weekly analytics from developers.

Too many people waste money on building websites and engage resources for updates that you can receive with a click of a button.

I still use Kajabi and It has improved in its functionality and user interface over the years.

4. Your Offer (Product/Service)

Truthfully, this was a bit complicated for me in the beginning and I struggled with creating offers and pricing them properly.

It's just about selling the service for an X amount of money, it's about believing that it's WORTH it or you can actually make the whole experience worth it!!

Since I started out as a life coach, I had no idea how to package my offer and how to price it appropriately.

So, I was just randomly charging my clients on hourly basis.  Slowly, I transitioned to high ticket coaching packages for 3-6 months engagement that I sold for thousands of dollars in one shot.

Further, I created online courses and memberships offer and had thousands of people enrolled.

My learning that I want to share with you is to build irresistible offers that help people experience TRANSFORMATION.

Focus on the value.

Consider having following TYPES of offers and see what you can comfortably start building:

  1. A low ticket offer that allows people to test your service without investing too much.
  2. A Membership offer if you want to share knowledge or product solution in groups
  3. A High ticket offer of your key transformational journey helping people go from place A to place B.

5. Personal Brand Building

In all honesty, building personal brand on LinkedIn has been the game changer for me.

Your personal brand reflects your credibility, authority and value…effective ingredients to grow and scale your business.

I started posting on LinkedIn in 2019. I didn’t have any strategy for content or engagement but I still showed up with 3-4 posts a week. At that time, I only had about 9,000 followers.

From 2021, I started posting strategically, used storytelling, build connection with my audience and shared tons of value in each post.

Within 20 months, my follower count from 9,000 went up to 74,000 and adding thousands each month (with over 100,000k impressions on majority of the posts).

For eg, In this above post, I shared my authentic story of building business against all odds. It resonated with thousands of people and this particular post itself got me three high ticket clients.

My business exploded in revenue after my LinkedIn posts started reaching to a wider audience.

Till now, I have trained several organizations, conducted over 200 workshops, coached executives  and entrepreneurs globally and scaled by business from Zero to six figures.

I consider this a success because I had no background, no prior experience and not many resources or support system  in a foreign land and taking the risk to quit my secure job and start my business was indeed a huge step.

This is through the power of personal branding.

I'd like to offer you 4 content formats that you can use to post content on social media especially LinkedIn.

  1. Personal story - Authentically share your wins, failures, set backs and transformations.

  2. Educational content - Share the take aways, strategies and tips that help people connect with your product/service and gain value.

  3. Testimonial/Results - Show how your product/Service has helped your customers achieve transformation

  4. Inspirational Content- Preferably unique content that could be quote cards, short videos or illustrations evoking emotional connect with your brand

Conclusion:

Before you start to apply any strategies, focus on building a VALUE driven mindset. Once you unlock your highest value contributor, you'll have much confidence in applying strategies and taking one step a day to build your business with above mentioned tools.
